GUTHRIE, Okla. (KFOR) — The Guthrie Police Department arrested a man after shooting his wife and sparking a stand off.
Police said a neighbor heard gunshots and called 911.
Larry Don Chandler got into an argument with his wife and allegedly hit her with a stick inside their home near Elm Str
eet and East Vilas Avenue on Saturday night.
The fight continued outside where he then shot her five times.
People living in the area said the couple is well known in their peaceful neighborhood.
Rhonda Robinson recalled the scene outside of her home.
"There were a lot of cops. They had the corner blocked off and wouldn't let nobody in or out " said Robinson.
When police got to the house they found Chandler across the street.
After a tense stand off with officers, Chandler was taken into custody.
"I just couldn't believe it happened because they very respectful people, very nice people and they'd give you their last dime," said Robinson.
There were also two children in the house at the time of the shooting.
"I have a seven year old grandson. He plays with her kids all the time," said Robinson.
The woman was flown to a local hospital where she is recovering.
Robinson said she hopes the woman and her children are able to recover from this.
"I'm just praying. I'm praying for her and I'm praying for him," said Robinson.
Chandler is in the Logan County Jail on charges of shooting with intent to kill, domestic assault and battery resulting in great bodily harm. ...read more read less
