Burqueños bless city waterways during Primera Aguas event

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – For the first time this season, water is flowing down the waterways in Albuquerque, and locals were standing by to bless those acequias. This is the fifth year celebrating the now-annual tradition of the Primera Aguas event.

The Center for Social Sustainable Systems is an organization that looks to preserve these old waterways by making sure they comply with city legal codes and advocating for land use. "These waterways that have been a water source of the city. You look back at the history, and you kind of see how these are the arteries, or the veins that really brought this city to life," says Emiliano Swanson from the Center for Social Sustainable Systems.
