The Pittsfield Police Department said that officers saw a Facebook post on Tuesday made by a resident regarding their home being broken into on upper North Street. The department soon received a call from the resident and arrived at the residence to investigate.
The suspect reportedly broke a door to enter the home. Pittsfield Police said that they were able to view video surveillance of the break-in, in which a man was observed stealing objects, including the surveillance camera.
The suspect allegedly brought the stolen objects back to his home, and while doing so he accidentally activated the camera, showing a clear picture of his face in the video footage. From there, Pittsfield officers were then able to identify the suspect.
Police located and arrested the suspect at his home, and he was charged with breaking and entering night time, vandalism, and larceny from a building.
