Carlsbad pool built in 1982 to temporarily close, undergo renovation

CARLSBAD, Calif. (FOX 5/KUSI) -- A pool that has been in service for more than 40 years in Carlsbad is closing temporarily due to construction.
Built in 1982, the Monroe Street Pool will undergo renovation for about 18 months, the City of Carlsbad said in a news release Wednesday.
The followin
g upgrades will be implemented to the pool:
A larger pool with 50% more lanes
Expanded pool deck with outdoor lockers and showers
Renovated locker rooms
Family restrooms
More shade and bleachers
More parking spaces
Addition of an outdoor entrance (instead of going through the lobby and locker rooms to get to the pool)
New eight-foot wall with metal gates along Monroe Street to reduce sound for neighbors
New and expanded solar

"These improvements will bring the pool in line with current health, safety and building codes, while ensuring it will meet the needs of the community for many years to come," city officials said.

The last day to use the pool will be this Sunday as the pool temporarily closes on Monday.
Pool memberships will be discontinued starting March 31, according to the city. After the pool closes, prorated refunds will be issued.
Construction of Monroe Street Pool will take place Monday through Friday, from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., and occasionally Saturday. It is expected to reopen in summer 2026. ...read more read less
