Shooting, house fire occur on the same Whitehaven street

MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- A shooting and a house fire on the same street have residents asking a lot of questions.
People living on Shayne Cove in Whitehaven woke up to startling news on Sunday morning.
Neighbors told WREG that a home on the street caught on fire last night.
However, police said t
hey were also in the area around the same time for another reason.

"As far as I know, I heard gunshots and the next thing I know, the fire department and police were over here," one neighbor said.
WREG cameras noticed bullet holes around the front door of the home next to the burned-down house.
Memphis Police said they responded to a shots fired call around 1:30 a.m.

"When I heard gunshots, I got down," a neighbor said.
A spokesperson said no one was injured in the shooting but a man was detained on the scene.
They also confirmed Memphis firefighters were responding to a house fire around the same time as the shooting.
Neighbors said a man does live in the now-charred home.
"I never saw him when everything was going on," a neighbor said. "I didn't see him."

People living on Shayne Cove said while they have heard gunshots in the surrounding community, it's usually never this close to home.
They said the overnight events were highly unusual but they're hoping peace can be restored.
"We need more police presence over here in this community," a neighbor said. "This city is shot."
Neither Memphis Police nor the Memphis Fire Department have said whether either incident is connected. ...read more read less
