Local nonprofit operating with no heat for past three weeks

LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) — For the past three weeks, Lighthouse Ministries has been dealing with the frigid temperatures inside and outside.
Executive Director Tay Henderson says one of their units on the roof broke, leaving part of their building with no heat.
“It’s cold, it’s cold as heck,” she said.
She said the ice-coated roof made it impossible for anyone to get up there and fix the broken unit.
“I think we got it up to like 55 degrees in here, but it’s been like really, really cold,” Henderson said.
Lighthouse Ministries is a nonprofit organization helping the low-income and unhoused people of Lexington by providing meals, clothing and counseling.
“One of the things we added about a year and a half ago, is we added showers,” Henderson said.
Those showers have been out of commission as of late, but Henderson says they plan on reopening them tomorrow.
“They’ll just have to get in and shower and dry and get out real quick,” she said.
As for Henderson and her coworkers, they’ve been sitting in their offices dressed in winter gear and close to their space heaters.
Meanwhile, other homes and businesses in the city are also dealing with the same problems, even bursting pipes. Lexington officials are urging people to take care of themselves and their homes during the frigid weather.
