Donald Trump Jr., the adult son of President Trump, weighed in on a survey that showed him as a leading 2028 Republican presidential candidate, telling the crowd not to get him “in trouble.” Asked about the poll at an inauguration weekend event, Trump Jr. shook off the idea that respondents believe he is a top candidate for the future. “Oh, God. No, no, no, don’t get me into trouble,” he said. “We have to worry about this. Now, we have to govern. We have to win, we have to fight. We have to get it done, we have to deliver on our promises,” Trump Jr. continued. The president’s son noted that the second Trump administration will be stocked with a Cabinet that can follow through on the campaign promises his father made. “We have people that are loyalists and competent to be able to do that,” he said. Trump Jr. is the eldest of the president's five children. He’s been a close confidant of his father's through three presidential campaigns and had an increased presence in political events throughout the last year. There was much speculation about who Trump would choose last year to serve as his running mate and vice president if he won the election. When he ultimately chose former Sen. JD Vance (R-Ohio), Vance was seen as an heir to the MAGA movement who could run in 2028. Trump Jr. lauded Vance when his father chose him to be his running mate, calling him an “incredible pick” with an “amazing story.”
