WASHINGTON, D.C. (WLNE) — Rhode Island Senator Jack Reed met with president-elect Donald Trump’s nominee for Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth Wednesday.
Reed, the Ranking Member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, released the following statement about the meeting with the prospective head of the Department of Defense:
Today’s meeting did not relieve my concerns about Mr. Hegseth’s lack of qualifications and raised more questions than answers.
Reed also cited the need for Hegseth to go through the standard vetting process for such nomiees:
As with any nominee for this critical position, Mr. Hegseth must undergo the same high-level of scrutiny as prior Secretary of Defense nominees.
