WELLS COUNTY, Ind. (WANE) - A woman died Wednesday after the car she was driving crashed into a semi and burst into flames in rural Wells County.
Emergency crews responded to the crash at US 224 and County Road 450 East, according to a Facebook post from the Wells County Sheriff's Office. Police determined the car was speeding and didn't stop at the stop sign. It's unclear if the road was impacted by the snowy weather.
The car crashed into the side of a semitrailer at the intersection, and the semi dragged the car several hundred feet before coming to a stop, police said.
The woman driving the car was identified as Rebecca Meier, a 45-year-old from Bluffton, according to the release.
Along with the sheriff's office, authorities at the scene included the Ossian Police Department, Markle Police Department, Indiana State Police, Ossian Fire Rescue, Bluffton Fire, and the Wells County Coroner's Office.
