HINESVILLE, Ga. (WSAV) - The Hinesville Police Department (HPD) spread holiday cheer during their 4th Annual Shop with a Cop program at Walmart on Saturday. The program provided over 180 children with toys they otherwise may not have received this Christmas.  Each child was allocated $150 worth of gifts. HPD Chief Tracey Howard said, "This is Christmas for the Hinesville Police Department. It's an opportunity for us, with Shop with a Cop, to come, get together with the kids of our community, some of which may not have the same type of Christmas without this help that others experience, and it absolutely makes Christmas for us." Shay Walthour who is a mother of 5 said, "This year me and my kids were fortunate to be placed on the list and we shopped until we dropped and got everything we wanted and are very blessed, grateful and thankful. We're going to have a great Christmas this year. Funded through donations, the program is a partnership between the HPD and elementary schools in Liberty County, including those on Fort Stewart. The schools help the HPD by nominating children who meet specific criteria. After the schools submit their nominations, the HPD conducts interviews with each family to make the final selections. Shop with a Cop accepts donations all year long. Those who would like to contribute and make the season special for even more kids can do so by reaching out to Sgt. Bryan Wolfe at 912-368-1305 or [email protected].
