County approves more time for fatal fire investigation
Dec 11, 2024
WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) -- The Sedgwick County Board of Commissioners has approved more time for the independent investigation of a fatal apartment fire that killed a Wichita woman.
A Jensen Hughes team is looking into what went wrong the night Paoly Bedeski died in an apartment fire in October 2023. Bedeski called 911 and gave dispatchers her address, but the firefighters' union says dispatch did not tell them she was trapped. She died before firefighters could get to her.
The audit was scheduled to be completed in October, but Jensen Hughes asked for more time to review the data and create an accurate report. The Wichita City Council has already voted to extend the agreement until Jan. 31, 2025.

The county says the compensation rate is fixed, and the time extension will add no cost.
