San Diego State wide receiver Jordan Napier, who said last week he was entering the NCAA transfer portal after a breakout season for the Aztecs, has changed his mind and will return for the 2025 season. Napier announced the change of plans Wednesday afternoon on his Instagram account, posting a photo of himself with the phrase “Unfinished Business.” Five of his starting teammates used the same phrase in similar posts on Friday when they announced plans to return for the 2025 season. “Coach (Sean Lewis) had always let me know that I had a spot here,” said Napier, who explained that he didn’t really have another destination in mind and it wasn’t about promised riches elsewhere when he announced he was entering the portal. “It was more about me thinking about it and wanting to make the right decision.” Napier was among those attending Wednesday night’s SDSU men’s basketball game at Viejas Arena. Speaking at halftime, he said, “Knowing that I’ve got love here and knowing that these coaches here want me” made a difference. “They said they have the best interests in me as a player, as a man overall, becoming a better man overall,” he said. “It gives me confidence to know that they have trust in me to do the right thing, be more relaxed as a player and more free. There’s more confidence that I’ll be a leader next year and that was a big confidence boost.” Sophomore edge Trey White and sophomore linebacker Tano Letuli, both team captains, were among the group of starters who announced they were returning, along with junior cornerback Chris Johnson, sophomore safety Dalesean Staley and junior left guard Ross Ulugalu-Maseuli. “We’ve got unfinished business,” Napier reiterated. “It shows the coaches did a great job with us, making us better players and making us better men at the end of the day. It also shows we’re hungry for something.” Lewis said he was “excited for our team to have Jordan a part of our future. He, along with other key players, knows how special our place is and what we are building together.” Napier had 43 receptions for 440 yards and four touchdowns this season. He caught passes of at least 29 yards in six different games. He had catches of at least 40 yards in four games, displaying a go-get-the-ball ability that made him one of SDSU starting quarterback Danny O’Neil’s favorite targets. Napier, a redshirt freshman from Fontana, announced a week ago that he was entering the portal. His return is crucial for the SDSU receiving corps. Every other receiver with a reception this season has exhausted his eligibility, or, in the case of Louis Brown IV, decided to transfer.
