Nov 25, 2024
ROCHESTER, NY (WROC) - Clouds are starting to move their way into the region, ahead of the rain. Scattered showers will likely move into the area around dinnertime and will continue on and off through the overnight hours. Temperatures will stay warm overnight, only falling into the lows 40s for lows.
8-Day Forecast
A warm front, quickly followed by a cold front (something that meteorologists call an occluded front) will slice through the region early Tuesday morning. Wind gusts from the west will also pick up as the front exits the region, blowing up to 40 to 45 mph. Tuesday will also be one of those days where our high temperatures will be reached in the morning and it will slowly decrease as the day goes on. Clouds start to clear out during the evening hours, which will allow for our temperature to drop into the low to mid 30s for overnight lows.
Wednesday will be the quietest day of the week, at least weather wise here in WNY. We are dry with mixed skies throughout much of the day as temperatures get into the low to mid 40s for highs. It's what comes after Wednesday that has our attention.
What's the weather on Thanksgiving? We aren't sure, but there's a chance we see our first snowfall of the season. The Euro is more bullish on a northward shift of a large system that could bring us area-wide snow. The American seems to trend this way as well. pic.twitter.com/ekgaFrppxQ— James Gilbert (@JamesGilbertWX) November 25, 2024
A large storm system is forecast to develop across the middle of the country and approach the East Coast on Thanksgiving. The American model says this system will stay too far south to have any impacts locally. The European model brings the system right overhead and that could mean snow for most. That could create a headache for travelers.
SIGNIFICANT LAKE EFFECT EVENT? First things first, it's early. But we're already seeing the early signs of what could be an extended and significant lake effect event from Friday into early next week. The devil will be in the details (of which we won't be able to fine tune for… pic.twitter.com/jmJAN2XeOy— Eric Snitil (@EricSnitilWx) November 25, 2024
Bitter cold air sets up behind this system and is expected to make for a cold start for the beginning of December. Lake effect snow showers are also expected to stick around through next weekend. While it's still way too far out to know exact details, Rochester could be seeing its first measurable snowfall of the season!
