Mentor Public Library announces next Paws to Read sessions
Nov 15, 2024
Mentor Public Library announced it next Paws to Read sessions which pair children with trained therapy dogs in an effort to encourage young readers by letting them borrow a furry friend to read with.
The Paws to Read sessions will take place at 6 and 6:30 p.m. Dec. 4, at its Headlands Branch, 4669 Corduroy Road. Each child gets 30 minutes to read with their therapy dog.
“The pups make an ideal audience—supportive, adorable and happy to listen to the reader—and all they ask for in return is the occasional belly rub,” the library stated in a news release.
Paws to Read is open to any children who can read independently.
Registration is required, and the library only has so many therapy dogs volunteering; so there’s a limit on how many children can participate, the release stated. Call Mentor Public Library to register at 440-257-2000.
Meanwhile, children can also take a photo with Santa and his special helper Major —a licensed therapy dog — during a special program on Dec. 7, at the Headlands Branch, 4669 Corduroy Road. This program will have sessions at 2 and 2:30 p.m. Call the Headlands Branch to register at 440-257-2000.
