SOUTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. (WLNE) — A different kind of class at South Kingstown High School aims to get students hands-on training behind a house. The class meets every-other day, and takes students through the basic jobs of first responders. Students said they have already learned CPR, first aid, and AED training, while also getting real experience on the training grounds. The Union Fire District said that the hope of the class is to get students interested in emergency personnel careers, especially as they struggle with recruitment. The program is funded through a four year federal grant that totals more than $600,000. And instructors and students said that the program is a chance to learn lessons for life, even for those who don’t go on to the fire service. Categories: News, Rhode Island
