Western North Dakota Honor Flight coming to Minot
Nov 13, 2024
MINOT, ND (KXNET) — It's a way to honor our veterans and take off on a very special trip to see our nation's monuments.
Now the Honor Flight is coming to Minot, for the first time.
Western Dakota Honor Flight leaders just announced that our state's sixth flight will take off out of Minot International Airport on April 27 with around 110 veterans in tow.
All veterans in North Dakota are able to sign up for this flight and future flights.
The first to sign up are usually the first to fly, but veterans 80 years and older are a top priority for this Magic City flight, along with veterans who are terminally ill.
Honor flights are completely free to veterans with the help of community partners raising nearly $200,000 for the two-day trip to Washington D.C.
Veterans encourage other veterans to know about their memorial benefits
Leaders say they hope this newly added flight broadens the opportunity for more veterans.
"I think veterans are excited, I think the community leaders are excited former military who just want to help out. Everyone is excited about doing this," said Dennis Burdolski, the president of the board of Western North Dakota Honor Flight.
Leaders say to keep in mind there is a waiting list for these flights.
However, veterans can still submit an application for this flight and other future flights.
Leaders say virtual flights are also being offered for veterans who aren't able to fly.
