EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) - The man convicted of shooting and killing Alamogordo Police Officer Anthony Ferguson was sentenced Tuesday, Nov. 12 to life in prison without the possibility of parole plus an additional 6 1/2 years, the Office of the Twelfth Judicial District Attorney announced in a news release. Man found guilty in murder of Alamogordo police officer This sentence follows Dominic De La O's, 27, recent conviction by an Otero County jury, which found him guilty of first-degree murder. The additional sentence of 6 1/2 years reflects his convictions on additional charges including tampering with evidence, aggravated fleeing of a law enforcement officer, and criminal trespass, according to the news release. Alamogordo police officer dies after being shot in line of duty "During Tuesday's sentencing hearing, the court listened to powerful, emotional testimony from Officer Ferguson’s family and colleagues," read the news release. "The prosecution also presented audio from a jail call in which De La O appeared to boast about the incident just days after Officer Ferguson’s passing." District Attorney Scot D. Key commended the law-enforcement officers involved in the case, offering a heartfelt “well done,” according to the news release. Key also acknowledged the challenges they have faced — and will continue to face — as a result of Ferguson's death.
