COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) – A man previously arrested for public indecency for allegedly baring his buttocks and genitals in front of an elementary school has been arrested again on drug charges.
According to court documents, Columbus police arrested Thomas Butts over the weekend and charged him with drug possession. Butts, 39, was taken into custody near the intersection of South High Street and East Castle Road in the Far South section of Columbus.

Though the circumstances surrounding Butts' arrest were not made clear in court documents, it was reported that Franklin County Sheriff's deputies found suspected narcotics in Butts' possession. Butts admitted to deputies that he was in possession of methamphetamine, which tested positive on a TruNarc device.
Saturday’s arrest location is around three miles west of where Butts was arrested and charged with three counts of indecent exposure and one count of obstruction of justice, when he was accused of exposing himself at an elementary school during off hours.
That arrest occurred the evening of Aug. 24, when officers responded to reports of a man, possibly intoxicated, yelling racial slurs and threatening people in front of Watkins Elementary School in the Marion Franklin neighborhood. While police were en-route to the location, additional calls were made about a man exposing his buttocks while yelling racial slurs at the same location.
Three adults flagged police across the street from the school and told officers that Butts allegedly pulled his pants down to all three of them before Butts continued walking towards Rhodes Avenue.
Police found Butts on Rhodes Ave. and ordered him to place his hands above his head so they could pat him down. Butts reportedly refused and when officers attempted to place him in handcuffs, he resisted before being taken to the ground and arrested.

In August, Butts was released without bond in Franklin County Municipal Court but failed to show up for an arraignment hearing four days later. A bench warrant was issued and continued in October before the case was reopened as a result of Saturday’s arrest.
On Tuesday, Butts was again released without bond and ordered to next appear in court for a preliminary hearing on Nov. 22.
