Fire department in northern Wisconsin mourns unexpected loss of Assistant Chief, memorial fund created

RHINELANDER, Wis. (WFRV) - The Rhinelander Fire Department took to social media to announce the loss of Assistant Chief Dan Bauer.
Bauer passed away on Saturday, November 2, 2024, from a heart attack at the age of 42. He is survived by his four children and wife Jenna.
He served the Rhinelander Fire Department for almost 20 years as a firefighter and paramedic. Bauer also coached basketball and baseball for six years.
In memory of Dan, a fund has been created by the Rhinelander Fire Fighters Local 1028 and the Rhinelander Fire Department through the Professional Fire Fighters of Wisconsin Charitable Foundation. All donations will go directly to Dan's family to help them through the challenging times ahead. Click here to Support the family of Daniel Bauer.
The Rhinelander Fire Department has also opened two accounts at People's State Bank to support the Bauer family.
Donations can be made to the "Bauer College Fund," with proceeds going toward a college savings account for his children, or to the "Dan Bauer Memorial Fund," which will support a memorial in his honor.

Visitation and funeral services will be held on November 14 at the Pine Grove Church in Rhinelander.
Rhinelander FD expressed they will be spending time mourning as the loss leaves a hole in the department.
