HAYS COUNTY, Texas (KXAN) -- From a $400 million transportation bond to the sheriff's race, here's what to know about the items on the ballot in Hays County. Turnout tracker: How many people have voted in the November 2024 general election? Transportation bond Hays County will vote on a bond package that would improve mobility and support economic growth. Proposition A proposed $440 million to improve the transportation infrastructure, including 30 projects to improve old roads and create new ones to help the city's continued growth. Coalition says Hays County transportation bond would negatively impact environment Proponents of this proposition argue this plan is needed to mitigate the stand-still traffic that has taken over downtown Kyle. Opponents of the bond argue the projects may damage sensitive environmental areas and aquifers. Hays County district clerk race Two candidates are set to face off to fill the vacant position after the previous district clerk resigned. The Hays County District Clerk resigned, now two are vying for the vacant position Voters will now decide between Democrat Amanda Calvert and Republican Philip Muzzy. Amanda Calvert has been the felony lead supervisor in the Hay's County District Attorney's Office for over a decade. Philip Muzzy said he has a diverse leadership background – he’s a veteran, was an associate principal at a school and owns a construction company.  Two candidates for Hays County sheriff Voters will decide between Republican Anthony Hipolito and Democrat Alex Villalobos for the next Hays County sheriff. Meet the two candidates for Hays County Sheriff Anthony Hipolito brings 25 years of law enforcement experience and has been the Hays County Sheriff's Office community outreach deputy for the past three years. Hipolito said some of his top priorities as sheriff are to keep teaching fentanyl awareness in schools, more public safety at Hays County schools, and focus attention on recruitment and retention efforts within the sheriff's office. Alex Villalobos currently serves as the Hays County Chief of Staff and worked for Texas State University's Police Department for over a decade. Villalobos said some of his top priorities as sheriff are to reduce crime through community initiatives, updating the Hays County Sheriff's office with new technology and add more public safety at Hays County schools.
