Rangers say on Wednesday the Half Dome Cables will officially come down for the winter season. Hikers are advised not to attempt the trek up the mountain route when the cables are down. Witness describes hiker’s slide down Half Dome in Yosemite Park officials say the winter season gives the iconic landmark a rest from heavy foot traffic as it rests in its icy blanket. Hikers can look forward to making the journey to the top of Half Dome next year once the snow begins to thaw.
