ARLINGTON, Va. (DC News Now) -- Almost a year after someone found her in the parking lot of a Goodwill store, a dog named Nekoosa found her permanent home. The Animal Welfare League of Arlington (AWLA) shared word of Nekoosa's adoption on its social media platfforms on Tuesday, noting that the older dog spent 362 days in its care, just 72 hours shy of her one-year anniversary. The woman who found her in the Goodwill parking lot commented on AWLA's Instagram post:"This makes me so happy! I found Nekoosa in the parking lot of the Goodwill a year ago, and I’ve been obsessively watching her story ever since. So much love to her and her new family!" Giant pandas arrive at National Zoo in DC AWLA said Nekoosa spent much of her time with it in a foster home. Up until her adoption, she had been in its longest resident. The league's Instagram post said: "We're so grateful to her new family for opening their hearts to this special girl, and we know she's going to have the most amazing life ahead." The league said that Nekoosa's story doesn't end with her adoption. It encouraged people to vote for her in its calendar contest, stating that people's votes "will help shine a spotlight on other long-time residents like Nekoosa, increasing their chances of finding their forever homes too!"
