The annual Ice Castles winter attraction will have a new home this year, moving from Maple Grove to the Minnesota State Fairgrounds. Moving the Ice Castles to the State Fairgrounds should make construction and operations smoother, according to Ice Castles CEO Kyle Standifird. Ice Castles draws tens of thousand of visitors many seasons, although it was canceled in the winter of 2020-21 because of the pandemic and it was delayed last year because of warm weather. The Utah-based company also has locations in Utah, New Hampshire and two in Colorado. “Our team is eager to craft something truly unique in our new home this winter,” Standifird said in a statement. “The State Fairgrounds are centrally located, well-known, and have plenty of infrastructure to handle our construction and operational needs.” This isn’t the first time Ice Castles has moved. Before Maple Grove, the attraction was in New Brighton, Excelsior, Stillwater and Eden Prairie. Construction of the Ice Castles is scheduled to begin next month, with plans to open to the public in early January. People interested in visiting can purchase tickets online beginning Nov. 26 at icecastles.com.
