Chance of tropical development goes down for the Gulf
Oct 02, 2024
NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — The odds of tropical development in the Caribbean and Gulf has gone down slightly from the past few days. The NHC is once again highlighting these areas with a 30% chance of tropical development over the next 7 days. Right now it looks like just a broad circulation may develop by the end of the week or the weekend. We could see something form from that after that point, but with a cold front moving in early next week it would likely stay to our south and east. Either way no concern for our area in the next 5-7 days.
There are still several areas where this could form, with recent models coming in to a bit better agreement on something that develops in the southwestern Gulf and then moves east towards the Florida peninsula. This could end up a named system or just be a large low pressure circulation. Either way it looks soggy for the Florida peninsula by early next week.
It's still too early to tell though what will happen through early next week so as always stay prepared and continue to stay with WGNO for the latest.
