MADISON, Wis. (WFRV) - The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is asking migratory bird hunters to play a part in preventing the spread of invasive water species. There are plenty of steps that can be taken before leaving boat launches or access points that are vital in protecting the hunting areas. Invasive species can hide in countless spots, especially in places you'd least expect. Water that collects in boats may carry diseases, while insects, snails and seeds could collect under the vests of hunting dogs. Give your hunting dog a rinse with a clean jug of water, or scrub them off with a brush while they go for a swim. Doing this can help curb the spread of invasive species. A large concern for hunters is the Faucet snail, which carries parasites that could kill ducks that eat them. Additional steps to preventing and minimizing the spread of these species are available on the DNR's website.
