EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Applications are now open for organizations working to prevent homelessness in Rhode Island. The R.I. Executive Office of Health and Human Services (EOHHS) is offering $2.5 million in grants funded in part by opioid settlement funds. Housing policy, harm reduction and community-based organizations are all welcome to apply, along with nonprofits, shelters and homeless service providers. "This grant offering underlines that we cannot solve this problem alone and must seek collaborative opportunities to ensure all Rhode Islanders have the opportunity to live healthy and fulfilling lives," EOHHS Secretary Richard Charest said. ALSO READ: 47 districts get $1.7 million to help students experiencing homelessness The grants aim to fund different efforts over multiple years including landlord incentives for housing priority populations, harm reduction implementation for shelters, warming stations and other supports. EOHHS said quarterly reviews of applications will happen on a rolling basis. For this round of applicants, priority will be given to applications submitted by Oct. 7.
