NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — The New Orleans City Council announced that it will allocate $17 million to the Sewerage and Water Board of New Orleans to fully automate its West Power Complex. City council officials said it has matched the City of New Orleans' $17 million needed of $34 million total needed for the SWBNO substation, which is expected to be operational in June 2025. 10 Yelp-reviewed spots to grab a cheeseburger in Greater New Orleans According to the city council, Louisiana Gov. Jeff Landry's office "is also working on a $17 million match." Of the $17 million allocated, $14 million will come from general obligation bonds from bonds recently sold by the city, and $3 million will come from the "fair share" dollars that were appropriated to the SWBNO. “The substation will come online in June 2025. This new funding will ensure the substation is not relying on people to manage the power and is instead completely automated. The council will file the funding ordinance at its Sept. 19 meeting, and it will be considered for final approval on Oct. 10.
