FAYETTE COUNTY, Tenn -- Locals are excited about the construction of the new hospital in Fayette County announced Tuesday. The approximately 20,000-square foot hospital, located on Highway 64 at Warren Road between Somerville and Oakland, will meet the needs of the rapidly growing county. "It will be an eight-bed emergency room and an eight-in-bed patient hospital," said Zach Chandler, Exec. V.P. Chief Strategy Officer of Baptist Memorial Health Care. "It will have outpatient imaging and pharmacy and lab services as well." The hospital is a result of a partnership between Baptist and Fayette County that started after the hospital in Somerville closed in 2015. "Fayette County needs a hospital, and we think this is the right time to invest in the development of quality health care that will serve our employers and community," said the John David Douglas with the Fayette County Industrial Board, in a statement. Construction is expected to take two years with an opening projected for October 2026. Millions could be restored for Elvis Presley Blvd. project WREG was told Fayette County will be contributing about $19 million to the construction and development with Baptist investing at least $6 million in clinical equipment and IT systems. "Oh, I think it's about time. I think It's wonderful," said Michele White, an employee of White House and Coffee Co. "There's a lot of people moving out into this area, and it takes a long time to get to Baptist East or Baptist Memphis is what it's called now, or any of the other hospitals."
