An unidentified man who was lying in an El Cajon street early Saturday was struck and killed by a passing vehicle, according to authorities. Officers with the El Cajon Police Department and Heartland Fire personnel responded to the 1300 block of East Main Street at 4:43 a.m. Saturday to a report of a collision between a westbound vehicle and a pedestrian near Jamacha Road and North Second Street. “The pedestrian suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at a local hospital. It is unknown why the man had been lying in the street,” ECPD Lt. Kevin Reilly said in a statement. “The driver remained on scene and was cooperative with investigators. DUI does not appear to be a factor in the collision.” The driver was not injured. Officers closed the roadway for several hours Saturday while they investigated the scene.
