CAROLINE COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- Caroline County Sheriff C. Scott Moser was appointed to the Virginia Sheriff's Association (VSA) Board of Directors earlier this week. The Caroline County Sheriff's Office announced Moser's appointment to the statewide board in a Facebook post shared on Tuesday, Oct. 20. As a member of the VSA Board of Directors, Moser will work with sheriffs across Virginia to share ideas, advocate for needs and participate in decision-making surrounding law enforcement agencies, the post said. The VSA represents sheriffs and deputies throughout Virginia and cooperates with state government and other segments of the criminal justice system, the VSA website said. "VSA represents 97% of the 123 sheriff’s offices in Virginia with more than 10,295 sheriff, deputy and sheriff’s office staff members with law enforcement, jails, court services and civil process responsibilities," the website said. Moser will serve as one of ten regional directors, according to the VSA website. The Caroline County Sheriff's Office congratulated Moser in its post, writing: "We at the Caroline County Sheriff’s Office could not imagine a better person for this role. Sheriff Moser has always placed the citizens he serves at the forefront of his decision-making and has demonstrated a genuine commitment to doing what is right for our community, our deputies, and the profession of law enforcement. We are proud to know that same commitment and perspective will now help shape the future of the law enforcement profession not only in Caroline County, but throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia." Moser's appointment to the VSA Board of Directors comes several months after the Caroline County Sheriff's Office began investigating two homicides that Moser called "disturbing." Four people have since been charged in connection with the late March deaths and are set to appear in court in early 2027. ...read more read less
