The city of Denton officially kicked off its Halloween season on Oct. 8, launching 31 days of spooky fun and activities. But the celebration has been growing for several years, helping Denton earn its title as the official Halloween Capital of Texas.
In 2025, the Texas Legislature unanimously pas
sed House Concurrent Resolution 86, formally designating Denton as the Halloween Capital of Texas through 2035. The designation recognizes 31 Days of Denton Halloween, a monthlong celebration that draws visitors to the city each October.
According to the city, the idea began in 2024 when a conversation about Christmas decorations sparked a larger plan to transform Denton into the Halloween Capital of Texas while creating a platform to showcase the city’s creative and small-business communities.
In its first year, Denton Halloween drew more than 600,000 visitors. Attendance grew to more than 800,000 in 2025, with visitors traveling from all 50 states and around the world, according to the city.
Denton Halloween features a month-long lineup of events for all ages.
