The NYPD is searching for a sexual predator after a woman said she was sexually assaulted while in a remote section of Prospect Park. The victim was walking in the sprawling Brooklyn park around 9:30 p.m. Wednesday when she was approached by a stranger who tried to strike up a conversation. The w oman walked away from the man, but he followed her, according to police. Shortly after, while still in the park, the suspect grabbed the woman and sexually assaulted her. Police said the victim was hurt in the attack, which appeared to be random. The woman’s injuries were said to be minor and she declined medical attention. The location of the sex assault — in the woods near the lake — does not have cameras. Investigators spent several hours searching the trail for DNA and any items potentially left behind. The NYPD’s crime scene unit collected evidence in a secluded area on the park’s east side following the incident. Officers could be seen patrolling the trails on Thursday, as their search for the suspect continued.
