Aviation concerns: A strengthening Super El Niño could create significant flight disruptions this fall and winter, particularly across the South, where heavier rain, flooding and severe storms may lead to delays, rerouting, ground stops and cancellations. Strong El Niño conditions can also increase wind shear and turbulence, creating additional challenges for aircraft operating through affected regions. The FAA says it can coordinate with airlines to reposition aircraft and adjust routes ahead of severe weather, while travelers should closely monitor their airline’s flight status for changes.
