RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- Multiple people were taken by ambulance from Thursday night's football matchup between Thomas Jefferson and Armstrong high schools due to extreme heat, causing the game to be suspended. On Thursday, Sept. 3, the Thomas Jefferson Vikings headed down to Armstrong High to face off against the Wildcats in the second week of the high school football season. However, extreme heat caused the game to be cut off at halftime. Thomas Jefferson's head coach Eric Harris told 8News that several people -- including players from both teams, a coach and multiple fans -- had to be taken from the field by ambulance. Our 8News crew, which was attending the game as part of our 8Sports Blitz coverage, witnessed a player who had collapsed along the sidelines. StormTracker8 chief meteorologist Matt DiNardo said the heat index was as high as 100 degrees during the game, falling no lower than 95.
