NYPD officers shot and killed a man armed with a knife on the Brooklyn Bridge early Friday, according to law enforcement sources familiar with the matter. Details on the circumstances weren’t immediately clear. Law enforcement sources with direct knowledge of the case say the man climbed the b ridge and was standing on the cables on the Brooklyn-bound side. The man, who sources say appeared to be emotionally disturbed, was taken to a hospital in unknown condition after the pre-dawn shooting. The NYPD has scheduled a media briefing for 8:45 a.m. NotifyNYC sent an alert around 4:30 a.m. advising people of delays on the bridge due to police activity. It was shut down in both directions for a time. Social media was abuzz with people woken by the police response. Chopper 4 showed a large emergency effort, with multiple law enforcement vehicles and yellow evidence markers scattered over the span. Both lanes of the bridge reopened mid-morning rush hour. Friday’s shooting marks the second deadly NYPD shooting this week.
