A man was charged on Friday in connection to a boat crash at the Jersey Shore that killed two children, police said. Stephen Schneider, 64, of Bayville, is facing two counts of reckless vessel homicide/death by vessel, as well as driving a vessel under the influence and reckless operation of a v essel, according to the New Jersey State Police. The crash initially happened after Schneider’s Tidewater Custom 280 30-foot vessel struck a channel marker in the Intercoastal Waterway in Berkely Township, Ocean County, just after 9 p.m. on Sunday, July 19, 2026, police said. A 7-year-old girl and a 9-year-old boy died after they were ejected from the boat as a result of the crash, police said. They were both unresponsive when they were taken out of the water, and they were later pronounced dead at the hospital.
