Students and staff at a Philadelphia high school will be relocating to a different building for the start of the new school year after crews found asbestos, according to the school district. Crews were working to install a new HVAC system at Kensington High School when they found an issue involv ing asbestos inside the building, a spokesperson for the Philadelphia School District explained. This is now forcing the district to have students and staff start their 2026-2027 school year at the now vacant Austin-Meehan Middle School, officials said. School leadership said that they will be sharing more information about the schedule and transportation for this temporary building soon.
