Now open after impressive efforts to elevate it beyond the city’s already renowned hospitality scene, the Cooper, with its 7,000-s quare-foot spa and private marina, proves it was worth the wait. Though brand new, the facade feels classic Charleston, with green shutters and iron Juliet balconies. Rooms at the swanky, 191-key hotel are airy and modern. Rattan furnishings, white shiplap walls, and a muted palette inspired by the marshes and tidal waters nod to the Lowcountry and create a calming atmosphere that provides a nice departure from the hustle and bustle of the main thoroughfares. Escape to the fourth-floor deck, which features an infinity-edge pool with enviable harbor views, as well as Bar Marti, a poolside hangout exclusively for hotel guests. Luxury perks abound, from amenities as high-end as a Hinckley yacht available for private charters to the simple pleasure of complimentary snacks in each room. It can be hard for a hotel eatery to stand out in a city known for its culinary offerings, but the Crossing has emerged as a hub for signature martinis, flavorful mezze spreads, and simple, fresh crudos. As Charleston’s only waterfront hotel, the Cooper is already regarded as a worthy place to stay, but with its luxurious touches and impeccable service, it’s sure to become a top choice in a city of plenty.
