8-4-26-Fishers High School Choir INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — The Fishers High School choir is preparing for the opportunity of a lifetime this week as students gear up to perform with legendary rock band Foreigner at Ruoff Music Center in Noblesville. The concert is scheduled for Friday and will feature approximately 24 students from the school’s top-tier choir ensemble joining the band on stage for the finale. “When the band’s tour managers reached out, we couldn’t say no to such an awesome opportunity for our students to perform professionally,” said Laney De Luna, choir director at Fishers High School. The students will perform Foreigner’s classic hit “I Want to Know What Love Is” alongside the rock legends, marking a memorable way to kick off the new school year. Nya Beck, choir student president, said she is struggling to find the words to describe her excitement about performing on a stage she grew up visiting as a fan. Beck, who grew up listening to rock bands thanks to her father, said the opportunity to perform professionally at such a young age is surreal. Foreigner is donating $500 to the Fishers High School choir program, providing much-needed financial support as the program continues to grow. De Luna noted that the donation is especially valuable at a time when many arts programs face budget cuts. Local Shriners will be selling Foreigner greatest hits CDs at the concert to raise money for the Grammy Foundation and Shriners Hospitals for Children. Foreigner donates all funds from the CD sales to these charitable organizations. The Grammy Foundation raises funds for high school music programs to help keep music education alive in schools throughout North America. The choir learned about the opportunity in early June, giving members just over a month to prepare before school started. “Lots of planning,” De Luna said. “Luckily, the group we’re taking is our top-tier small ensemble at the school, so we’re trusting these young women to pull everything together.” Students will attend school on the day of the concert before heading to Ruoff Music Center for a sound check immediately after classes end. “I’m not going to be very focused in math class, I’ll tell you that,” Beck joked. The school’s principal, Kyle Goodwin, and the administrative team have been supportive, working to promote the program and generate excitement throughout the school community. For the Fishers High School students, the experience promises to be unforgettable. “More than anything, we are just so excited for the opportunity to kick off the new school year in this way and just have fun being back singing together,” De Luna said.
