Jul 16, 2026
The San Francisco Fire Department has a new fire engine thanks to a donation from Pacific Gas and Electric Company.
SFFD and PGE announced the donation during a news conference Thursday.
Fire officials said the new engine will respond to structure fires, wildfires, rescue operations and other
natural disasters.
Following the announcement, SFFD and PGE held a joint training exercise on Treasure Island to improve coordination and safety during electrical incidents, such as the December blackout caused by an equipment fire at a PGE substation.
PGE said the fire engine was donated through the city’s behested payment process, which allows money or goods to be donated to a city department or nonprofit at the direction of a city leader for governmental or charitable purposes.
