Philadelphia's Reading Terminal Market unveils renovated public dining space
Jun 04, 2026
Reading Terminal Market is celebrating the completion of its Public Table Renewal Project, a renovation of more than 5,000 square feet of communal space.
Officials marked the project with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Thursday, unveiling updated seating areas designed to provide more dining space
and improve the customer experience.
As part of the celebration, 10 customers were surprised with Reading Terminal Market gift cards placed under seats in the newly renovated area.
The renovation was made possible by $275,000 in support from the Bardaro Foundation.
To honor the Bardaro Foundation’s contribution, officials hung two mosaic plaques depicting their logo in Center Court. The mosaics were designed and crafted by Mount Airy-based Bella Mosaic.
The Reading Terminal Market, established in 1893, is one of America’s largest and oldest public markets.

With more than five million visitors in 2025, officials said the market was one of the most-visited destinations in the Greater Philadelphia Area. Now with America’s 250th birthday and the FIFA World Cup on the horizon, officials said visitation is expected to exceed six million guests this year.
Officials hope that, with the anticipated influx of new and local guests, this renovation will help accommodate additional diners in an accessible and comfortable way.
Reading Terminal Market is open 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., seven days a week.
