A California sea lion pup was found roaming the streets of San Francisco early Thursday morning, according to officials. The young sea lion was spotted near 48th Avenue and Irving Street, not far from Ocean Beach, The Marine Mammal Center (TMMC) said. A trained responder with TMMC, police offi cers, and parks and recreation department rangers responded to the scene, TMMC said. They safely corralled the pup – given the name Irving – in a carrier crate and eventually transported the animal to TMMC’s Sausalito hospital. “While it’s as of yet unknown why Irving was away from their usual habitat, the California sea lion pup will receive an admission exam from our veterinary experts this week to evaluate their condition and any underlying ailments,” TMMC said in a statement. “We do not have any further information about the animal’s condition, sex, or long-term future outlook at this time.” ...read more read less
