RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- The Richmond Night Market kicked off the new season last night with vendors and live music filling the streets. On Saturday, April 11, the Richmond Night Market began its new season with live music and local street vendors lining the streets. The open-air market is every sec ond Saturday from 5 to 9 p.m. and runs from April to December at the 17th Street Market, located at 100 N 17th Street. The market highlights small businesses in Richmond and brings together community members with fun for all ages. "So it's just a great time, just activating the space again and also continuing to make this place a creative one," said Ashley Short, the Creative Council Architect at the Richmond Night Market. "It's a family space, it's an entrepreneurial space and also just a third space." They decided to expand the types of businesses at the event to support more local vendors. "So here today you have food vendors, clothing vendors, jewelry vendors, candle vendors and any kind of thing you can sell, it's probably been at the night market once or twice," said Tenel Robinson, the Market Coordinator for the Richmond Night Market. Around 800 to 1,000 people attend the market every month, with between 30 and 35 vendors of various types. The next time the Richmond Night Market will be open is May 9.
