HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- Henrico County officials are hoping to get cats, dogs and even a rabbit into loving homes during an adoption event on Saturday. From 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 11, the Henrico County Police Animal Shelter will host a "Fixin' To Go Home" adoption event at 1 0421 Woodman Rd., according to a press release. "We want to help the animals in our care find the loving homes they have been looking for," county officials said in the release. "We have cats, dogs and a rabbit who are ready to start their next chapters." Additional adoptable pets will be brought in from shelters all over the Richmond region, including from Petersburg Animal Care Control, Hanover County Animal Protection and Shelter, the Louisa County Animal Shelter and Sussex County Animal Control. Hopewell ice cream, burger restaurant to open new location Many of these pets can be taken home for a reduced $10 adoption fee due to the generosity of community partners like the William A. Harrison Jr. Foundation, Furbish Thrift and the Henrico Humane Society. These groups are also sponsoring spay and neuter surgeries for adoptable cats and dogs. If you'd like to take home a new furry friend during Saturday's event, you must be 18 years old or older and present a photo ID. It's suggested that you bring a collar and a leash or a cat carrier along with you, but this is not required. "Residency of Henrico County is not required to adopt a pet, only the desire to add a wonderful pet to your family," the county said.
