Home invasion and assault in Piedmont leaves neighborhood shaken
Mar 25, 2026
Police said a person was taken into custody following a home invasion in Piedmont, which happened just after midnight on Tuesday.
The incident happened in the 400 block of Scenic Drive in Piedmont. Police said two suspects targeted a home just after midnight on Tuesday.
They said a resident re
turned home and found the front door open, coming face to face with a suspect inside while another ran from the scene. Inside the home, a woman had been assaulted; police said the suspects entered her bedroom demanding money before ransacking the home.
Neighbors who have lived in the area for decades said this type of crime is rare.
“I used to feel very controlled walking any night or day, but now I’m rethinking that,” Joyce Polse said.
“You get concerned when your neighbor gets involved with this, it shakes you up,” Layne Denton said.
Police said they identified a suspect vehicle using Flock license plate reader cameras in the area. The car was found in Oakland.
Chris Moore is also one of the neighbors who is shocked by the incident. He supports police using Flock cameras in the city, which have drawn criticism in other parts of the Bay Area over privacy concerns.
“They are using it to identify the suspects, and it makes their job easier,” he said.
Despite Tuesday’s incident, a recent report from Piedmont PD says overall crime went down by 40% in 2025, with just five reported robberies for the year.
But for many in this neighborhood, this is a reminder to stay alert.
Police asked anyone with information to come forward, as they continue to search for additional suspects.
