Pennsylvania State Police are investigating after a man was shot by Troopers in North Whitehall Township in Lehigh County on Saturday, police said. The incident began at around 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 24, 2026, after Pennsylvania State Police from Bethlehem responded to a report of man causing a disturbance at the 2800 block of Rockdale Road, police said. Upon arriving at the scene, Troopers found a 27-year-old man in a 2009 Toyota Camry parked in the driveway of a residence with a handgun in his possession, police said. Troopers attempted to form a perimeter around the man, who they say fired his gun more than once and aimed it at Troopers several times. The Pennsylvania State Police Special Emergency Response Team later arrived at the scene and attempted to reach a peaceful resolution with the man, but the man opened fire at around 2 p.m., police said. A SERT Trooper engaged with the man and returned fire, resulting in the man getting hit, police said. The man was then given medical treatment by EMS at the scene and taken to the hospital, police said. His condition was not announced. The identity of the man has not been publicly released at this time. No members of law enforcement were injured during the incident, police said.
