LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) — As dangerously cold temperatures grip Central Kentucky, the Office of the Fayette County Sheriff has officially activated its Winter Care Program to provide added support and safety services for the community. According to a release from the Fayette County Sherif f’s Office, the Winter Care Program is designed to help residents who may be vulnerable during severe winter weather by offering transportation and wellness services during the storm period. The program includes transportation to and from work for healthcare workers and professionals providing direct medical services, rides to critical medical appointments, and pick-up of essential prescription medications. Deputies will also conduct welfare checks on vulnerable residents and assist with distributing winter coats and blankets. In addition, the sheriff’s office says transportation to shelters is available for those who need a warm and safe place to stay. Officials encourage anyone who needs assistance — or knows someone who does — to contact the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office directly at (859) 252-1771 and ask for Winter Care services. The program is part of broader emergency efforts across Lexington as the city deals with extreme cold and winter storm conditions.
