Air Force hockey was one slip-up short of breaking the streak.  Midway through overtime at the Hart Center in Worcester, Mass., on Friday, Falcons top-line center Nick Sajevic won a defensive zone faceoff, but Holy Cross intercepted a bad pass from an Air Force skater and Crusaders forward Noah Eyre buried the game-winning goal as a result. The Falcons fell 3-2 as the Crusaders extended their unbeaten streak against Air Force to 15 games.  “It was a chaotic game, a very emotional game, over emotional,” Falcons coach Frank Serratore said in a radio interview after the contest. “It’s good to play with emotion, but not emotional.” Entering Friday on a three-game losing streak, the Falcons did everything they could to avoid a fourth straight loss, including a comeback attempt in the second period.  Air Force began the middle frame down a goal thanks to Holy Cross forward Anthony Carone’s tally at the 5:55 mark of the first period, but Sajevic earned the equalizer and the first goal of the evening for the Falcons. He beat Crusaders netminder Danick Leroux at 12:46 of the second period. The score was Sajevic’s fifth of the season. The second-year skater leads Air Force in points with 24 thanks to his team-high 19 assists.  Less than two minutes later, Air Force scored a go-ahead goal courtesy of sophomore defenseman Ren Morque, who lit the lamp at the 14:12 mark. The goal was Morque’s third of the season.  Unfortunately for Air Force, the advantage would be short-lived as the Falcons took what Serratore called an emotional penalty. Sophomore defenseman Beau Janzig was called for unsportsmanlike conduct at the time of Morque’s goal, leading to a Holy Cross power play.  During the penalty kill, Falcons senior captain Mason McCormick was called for cross checking at 15:04. The Falcons didn’t allow a goal on the 5-on-3 and nearly escaped both penalties unscathed, but Holy Cross forward Michael Abgrall scored with two seconds left on the McCormick penalty at 17:02.  The Crusaders’ power-play goal highlighted a poor special teams performance from the Falcons. While Holy Cross was only able to convert one of its four power plays, Air Force went 0 for 5. Including Friday, the Falcons are 0 for 15 on the man advantage in the losing streak. The Falcons and Crusaders were dead even in shots at 23 apiece. Air Force junior goalie Dominik Wasik made 20 saves.  Air Force and Holy Cross will conclude their series on Saturday at 5 p.m. ...read more read less
