Alpine Forestry and Apex Fire Preparedness, two local forest management companies, both announced their plans to work on pile burning projects in the area starting Wednesday morning due to ideal weather conditions. Dave Telian of Alpine Forestry said his crew is picking back up their work in Old Town and lower Deer Valley Resort. Those projects are part of cross-boundary, collaborative efforts to create a continuous fuel break as mitigation against wildfire risk. Trevor Searle, Apex Fire Preparedness co-founder, said his crews will be burning in Wolf Creek Ranch in Big Pole Canyon, a state project on 23 acres aimed at protecting a Douglass fir stand on the property. The goal had been to complete that project before Dec. 19, 2025, but warm weather delayed their burn plans. Smoke will be visible, but both groups asked visitors and residents to not report these controlled burns.
