Kadja Manuel returns to Trenton politics to run for City Council atlarge
Dec 31, 2025
He’s learned some lessons and is now ready to take another run.
Veteran and activist Kadja Manuel officially launched his next campaign for an at-large seat on Trenton City Council earlier this month.
Having run and lost in the 2022 election, Manuel said his call to serve his home city was heard a
gain.
“I love Trenton, and I’m committed to solving the everyday challenges families face from safety and neighborhoods to jobs and our schools. My inspiration comes from watching parents and neighbors juggle rising costs, safety concerns while local services struggle to keep pace,” Manuel said. “I’m running to bring steady, results-driven leadership that builds trust in local government, ensures every neighborhood receives its fair share of attention and resources, and helps residents achieve the quality of life they deserve. Having served in the military, I understand service and sacrifice, and I’m prepared to dedicate my time and skills to the people of Trenton. I bring discipline, grit, and a steadfast commitment to public service. I’ve said this before but, I’ve spent most of my life being a man dedicated to service. I’m a man of service.”
Manuel has kept himself busy since the last election, saying he stays “active in council meetings and have regularly reached out to address matters important to my North Ward neighbors.”
“I’ve remained deeply engaged in the community and in state organizations,” Manuel said. “I currently serve as a Council member on the New Jersey Veterans Services Council, appointed by Governor Phil Murphy, advocating for legislation that improves the lives and concerns of veterans and have held that post since June, 2023. Professionally, I’m a senior manager at the U.S. Department of Commerce (GS-13), leading the largest department in my regional office and coordinating efforts across eight states and Washington, DC.”
When asked about his plans if elected, Manuel said, “I will pursue clear, measurable goals focused on outcomes.”
“Support the administration in its efforts to reduce crime crime by supporting targeted community programs and enhanced coordination with police, social services, and prevention initiatives.
“Support legislation that invests in infrastructure that creates good-paying local jobs.
“Increase transparency by publishing quarterly progress reports and engaging residents through regular neighborhood meetings.
“I will achieve these goals by fostering strong working relationships with state, local, and federal stakeholders and by ensuring government is more open and responsive to residents’ concerns.”
Questions arose online about his residency after screenshots of Manuel’s own Facebook comments circulated saying he had “left Trenton for the foreseeable future” and that he represented Pennsylvania in a national competition.
When asked about his residency, Manuel told The Trentonian, “I’ve lived in my home in Downtown/North Trenton since 2022. While my work has required travel out of state at times, my domicile remains in the Capital City, and I’m committed to serving the residents of Trenton.”
